Tornadoes Touch Down in Iowa, Causing Damage

Coralville Hit Hard by Storms

Cleanup Underway as Residents Recover

CORALVILLE, Iowa - As Eastern Iowa residents recover from Friday's tornadoes, cleanup efforts are underway in the hard-hit city of Coralville.

A line of strong storms swept across the state on Friday evening, spawning at least two tornadoes in Johnson County. One tornado touched down near the Coral Ridge Mall, causing significant damage to homes and businesses.

Coriana Moore, 17, was one of the many volunteers who pitched in to help with the cleanup effort. She said she was shocked by the extent of the damage.

"I've never seen anything like it," Moore said. "There were houses that were completely destroyed, and trees that were uprooted."

The National Weather Service has not yet determined the strength of the tornadoes, but officials say they were likely strong enough to cause EF-2 damage. That means wind speeds could have reached up to 111 mph.

Coralville residents are now left to pick up the pieces and rebuild. The city has set up a disaster relief fund to help those who have been affected by the storms.

The Red Cross has also set up a shelter at the Coralville Recreation Center for those who have been displaced from their homes.

As the cleanup continues, the community is coming together to support the victims of the tornadoes. Neighbors are helping neighbors, and businesses are donating supplies and offering discounts to those who have been affected.
